All I can say about Bamberg is that it is one of those rare pearls of a city that everywhere you look and around every corner you turn it just gets better and better!! I only had a few hours to be here but it is definantly on my "have to go back for a couple of days list"..Bamberg is located in Bayern, in the Upper Franconia region on the Regnitz River. This historical city was first mentioned in the year 902 and was Christianized by the monks of the Benedictine Fulda Abbey. In 1007 it was made into a "family inheritance" by the Holy Roman Emperor Henry II..but the history goes on ..in the 17th century between the years of 1626-1634, over 1000 victims were executed in the Witch Trials. The University of Bamberg was founded in 1647, Bamberg became a part of Bayern in 1803, and the city was first connected to the German railsystem in 1844...and up until 2014 also played host to the American Military. Bamberg is a wonderful place to be as evidenced by the numerous tourist buses on the day I visited..but with enough places for folks to explore, relax with a coffee, or enjoy the atmosphere so that it did not feel crowded..another of my "must sees" for all of you on your next or first trip to Deutschland!!
