For those of you who are Fluffy seeks Firm readers you have seen this wonderful place before but for all of you who are new to my escapades. .welcome to one of my all time favorite places to be..Greetsiel..a small fishing village and tourism local..located about 30 minutes from our house..yes..I know..lucky lucky me!! Greetsiel is home to about 1500 permenant residents and home to 27 of the 250 krabbing boats in Germany..a little over 10% of the total number..now what we call Krabben here are what I used to call cocktail shrimp before my life transformation!! See..very bottom picture of a Krabben Brötchen..usually served with a remoulade sauce in a soft roll..yummo!!
In my research of this wonderful fairytale of a village I found the Greetsiel was first mentioned in a letter that was dated from 1388 and that on old Holland maps was labled as Grietjezijl. Of course the spoken language of choice would be Plattdeutsch.( specific to Ostfriesland and parts of Holland)...can I speak it?? About 2 or 3 words but I am, after 3.5 years beginning to understand more and more!! Greetsiel has been featured in several series and movies..clear to see why..and stays busy year round. Our favorite winter place here is the building located 3rd picture from the bottom..now a bar-coffee house which also serves light snacks was once home to the local Coast Guard and the boats used to drive right out of the lower part of the building into the water..This is definantly a place to see and experience..Ice cream cones and seagulls in the warmer months and hot choclate with whipped cream in the winter..What more can you ask for??!!
